Configuration file
A display's whole configuration in one file: every setting, the Mode and the CAN signals, with their names. Keep a copy before you change things, move a setup to another display, or have the file changed by hand or by an AI assistant and load it back.
The file is made and read in your browser. Nothing is sent to resolve-ev.com.
Download, load, restore defaults
On the Resolve Display page, connect the display (Settings); Configuration file is below Activity. Messages (done, problems) appear in Activity.
-
Download saves
resolve-display-<date>.json: every value the display has, defaults included. -
Load opens a file and checks all of it against the connected display before anything changes. A file with a problem is refused, with every problem listed in Activity (where it is in the file and what is wrong). Otherwise you see what will change. Only what the file contains changes; everything else stays, so a file may hold just a few settings. A downloaded file has every value, so loading it restores the whole display. For a clean start, use Restore defaults first.
Apply sends the changes (the display redraws once, at the end), reads the display back and says whether every value took.
-
Restore defaults puts every setting, CAN signal and signal name, the Mode and the G-force levelling back to how the display left the factory. The display restarts and the page connects again. The restart history, and the DBC files you uploaded (kept in your browser), stay.
A file from a display with other firmware loads too: what this display doesn't have is listed and skipped. Older firmware, from before signal names, can download and load, but keeps no signal names (the page keeps them in the browser) and can't restore its defaults: update it for those.
The format
JSON, one object. A shortened example:
{

| Key | What |
|---|---|
format | Always "resolve-display-config" |
version | The format's version: 1 |
written | Who wrote it, the firmware and hardware version and the date. Only for you to read: ignored when loading |
mode | The Mode the display shows, by its name (the Modes table) |
signals | The CAN signals, each under its name (below) |
general | Settings of every screen |
screens | One section per Mode name, with that screen's own settings |
Every setting key is unique, so a setting is accepted in any section; the sections only make the file easier to read. Unknown keys are listed and skipped.
Values
| Type | In the file | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Number | A whole number in its range and unit | "brightness": 80 |
| Choice | The option's number, not its name: 0 is the first option | "rc_errors": 0 (Off) |
| Color | "#RRGGBB" | "soc_color": "#3CC954" |
| Text | Text in quotes, at most the length given; letters, digits, spaces, punctuation, ° and ², but no ; or # | "box_name": "MOTOR" |
| CAN signal | The name of a signal in signals. null: Not used (the car has no such signal; any slot but the ignition signal) | "box_signal": "Motor speed" |
CAN signals
Each signal in signals has a name (1 to 32 characters, the same characters as a text, unique)
and:
| Key | What |
|---|---|
id | The CAN ID: "0x1DA", or a number. At most 0x7FF, or 0x1FFFFFFF for an extended ID |
extended | true for a 29-bit ID. Default false |
dbc | The signal as the SG_ line of a DBC file: SG_ <name> : <start bit>|<length>@<1 Intel, 0 Motorola><+ unsigned, - signed> (<factor>,<offset>) [<min>|<max>] "<unit>". Values outside min to max count as missing. The DBC name and unit are only for you to read |
multiplier | Applied after decoding, e.g. -1 to flip the sign. Default 1 |
A signal can be used by several slots ("race_signal": "Motor speed" and
"ph_signal": "Motor speed"). The display keeps each slot's signal name, so the names come back
in the next download.
Gauge shows
A value gauge's *_source ("Gauge shows"; the left gauge of Sport (dash) lg_source, the bottom
arc of Glass (dash) gd_source) picks what it shows, and for a standard CAN value sets its CAN
signal too. It doesn't change the name, unit or scale: write those in the file. Loading sets the
source first, then the rest of the file, so values in the file always win: to show your own
signal, set the source to CAN signal and give *_signal, the name, unit and scale.
Changing it with an AI assistant
See Set up the display with an AI: a worked example of loading a file, a prompt to start from and example wishes.
For tools and editors that check JSON, there is a JSON Schema of the format, and an example file with the factory settings.
Every key
Generated from the settings a display reports. A display with newer firmware may have more: download its configuration to see them all.

warn_ok_ring | White ring when all is OK With the ignition on and no warning, a white ring shows the display is working. Off: the screen stays black until a warning (or a lost signal) comes. | 0 Off1 On | 1 (On) |

warn_signal | Warning signal (CAN signal) The warning shows while this value is above Warning above. An on/off bit (length 1) shows at 1 with Warning above at 0. Or a value, such as a temperature in its unit. Not set at first: the screen says NOT SET UP. If its message stops for 2 s (3 s after the ignition comes on) the screen says SIGNAL LOST. | A signal's name from signals, or null: not used | null (not used) |

screens.GLASS: Glass (one)
glass_source picks what the gauge shows: choosing one sets the gauge's name, unit, scale and CAN signal to that value's (the keys after it in the file then change them again). 6 (CAN signal) keeps the gauge's own signal.
